Generally speaking, pop star or pop artist is a term that gets thrown around a lot. In general there are three criteria that a person must fit in order to become known as a pop artist. The first is that they have to be in music that appeals to a wide fan base of people from about eleven year olds all the way up to people in their thirties who like to go out to night clubs, or just generate enough fans to survive in a single age group. Second on the list is that they have to be popular, hence the abbreviated term “pop”, among their audience, no matter the age group. Finally, they have to be able to measure up, musically, to other pop artists in the same general grouping as them and can’t just wing it and hope for the best. Because of their popularity, however, these artists generally get the wrong end of the stick in terms of publicity and it seems the media seeks out the dirt when it comes to these people. In fact, most pop stars become more widely known because of bad publicity. Recently, it seems that it is the new fashion to get into trouble, both by fans and the police to the extent that the artists name becomes common dinner table gossip. Nevertheless, there are ten notable names that aren’t likely to fade from the record charts and tabloids any time soon, whether they’ve been looked at in a bad light or not.
Michael Jackson
Miley Cyrus
Usher
Katy Perry
Elton John
R. Kelly
Mariah Carey
David Bowie
Kelly Clarkson
